Nathan Hale in Washington, D.C.

“The Capital Chapter!”

Nathan Hale’s Washington, D.C. chapter is one of our largest and most active.  Many of our fellows and general members live and work inside of the “Beltway,” giving us a large number of people to engage in thoughtful and informed discussion about U.S. foreign policy.  We generally organize the following types of events:

Steve Clemons of the New America Foundation recently met with

Nathan Hale members to discuss U.S.

Foreign Policy in the Second Bush Term

  • Guest Speakers.  One of the obvious benefits of life in Washington is the chance to interact with a large number of the leading scholars and policymakers in the field.  This year, we plan to organize group discussions with experts in foreign policy roughly once every other month.  Our last meeting was in early December, when Steve Clemons of the New America Foundation met with about fifteen Nathan Hale members to discuss the foreign policy agenda for the second George W. Bush administration.

  • Foreign Policy Chats.  If there is one feature that most distinguishes Nathan Hale’s Washington chapter from other think tanks in the city, it is our regular informal meetings.  These give us an opportunity to speak with one another about foreign policy in a relaxed informal setting, normally after work.  We usually meet in restaurants and discuss a particular topic of interest over dinner, and we’ve found that it’s a great way to make friends and professional contacts with similar interests.

  • Nathan Hale Book Club.  This year, we plan to organize a few sessions to discuss new and interesting books in foreign policy.  We welcome your suggestions on appropriate books, and we welcome you to submit reviews for potential publication on our website!

We are also open to other activities suggested by our members!  If you are interested in participating, please let us know!  Our National Director, Justin Abold, heads our Washington chapter, and our Vice President, John Ciorciari, and Director of Studies, Bob Kotka, are both recent transplants to the area, so please feel free to be in touch!  We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting, and we will update this site with planned events.  We expect our next speaker event to take place in mid-January.
